I Am Woman
Tell us about Yourself I am an engineer, yoga teacher, blogger, speaker, and diversity and inclusion champion. I use my experiences in the work place and the yoga space to empower women with tools to thrive in work and in life. When Life Gives You Lemons How would you turn a negative situation into something positive? It's all about perspective. Some days it's easier than others, but I try to pivot my thinking (and my language) away from the bad towards the opportunity of a situation. If I'm totally overwhelmed at work, it's an opportunity to learn to prioritize better; if I'm sad or lonely, it's an opportunity to spend time with myself and explore my independence. Yoga and meditation help provide the space to make that pivot.

I Am Woman
Tell us about Yourself I am an entrepreneur of life, really. I try so hard to use my thoughts and sentiments to empower the people around me, to which I love and admire. I was born, raised and educated in Chicago, that makes me a Goddess with the moxie of a thousand armies. I'm unmarried and a jack of many trades, master of drinking wine and eating cheese. I try my best to lead with kindness. When Life Gives You Lemons How would you turn a negative situation into something positive? When life gives you lemons this is what you should do: 1. Tell your good-good girlfriends and close friends that life has in fact delivered lemons to your doorstep. 2. Pray about said lemons. 3. If you can, google your particular kind of lemons and see how others have handled it in the past. 4. Pray again about the lemons. 5. Be steadfast in your solution for self-preservation and then smash those lemons, make lemonade, find vodka or gin... turn the whole thing into a cocktail with a cilantro or parsley garnish. Life will always have hurdles, you must ask for help and then go jump them. It's not always easy, but hey that's life right. I Am Woman
Tell us about Yourself I am a Cameroonian-American woman on this journey called life. Along the way I discovered I love connecting with people and made that the focal point. When Life Gives You Lemons How would you turn a negative situation into something positive? The best way to turn a negative situation into something positive is by keeping a positive mindset through motivational and spiritual affirmations. Second, to have faith in yourself and the possibility that things can turn around. Making HERStory What and/or Who inspired you to follow your dream? My mom, family, and culture inspires me. These are the driving factors to pursue my dreams, live in service and contribute to my culture and community as my legacy plays out. I Am Woman
Tell us about Yourself I am an author and motivational speaker born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. I completed my bachelor’s degree at Middle Tennessee State University in Mass communication and will be attending the University of Tennessee this fall for my master’s degree in Social work. I am a down south God-fearing woman with intentions to inspire women in today's society to be all that they can be and to wear their crowns despite difficult challenges, hardships, and the ways of society. To be fearless and to empower other women while living their best lives. To become a generation of strong courageous women who aren't afraid to go after every dream and goal that they have set for their lives. To wake up each day knowing that their life has a wonderful purpose waiting to be fulfilled. When Life Gives You Lemons How would you turn a negative situation into something positive? I would adjust my mindset and always look at the positive in each and every situation. Making HERStory What and/or Who inspired you to follow your dream? Tell us about Yourself I am a chocolate loving, Netflix binge-watching, traveling introvert. I love to laugh. I enjoy writing, reading and creating one of a kind events. I am also a volunteer crisis counselor. I created the country's first dues-based membership association for African American bloggers in a city. So, I'm pretty much a trailblazer. But who I am most importantly is true to myself at all times http://adayinthelifewithtomei.com/about/ When Life Gives You Lemons How would you turn a negative situation into something positive? I've been in many negative situations. For me, exiting with the least amount of chaos is how I turn it into a positive. If I see no resolution that would benefit my soul then I exit stage left. Sometimes walking away is better than trying to fix something that will never go back to what it was. Making HERStory What and/or Who inspired you to follow your dream? No one really inspired me to follow my dream. I don't gravitate to people in that way. But Vickie L. Milazzo inspired me when she shared how she created the legal nurse industry. I knew then I could create things that hadn't existed yet either. And I have on several occasions. I Am Woman

Tell us about Yourself Spent 8 years teaching in HISD. Next 34 years in the business world...the last 24 as owner of a local IT firm. I have been the Director of Corporate and Business Relations at The Rose for the past 5 years. When Life Gives You Lemons How would you turn a negative situation into something positive? I have lived long enough to know that most things work out as they should. AND you should always have a plan B! Making HERStory What and/or Who inspired you to follow your dream? Most recently - after working at The Rose for about 6 months, and hearing the terrible statistics for African American women and surviving breast cancer I decided to head The Rose's initiative to bring the message of early BC detection and survival to the AA community. After 5 years we have raised over $140,000 for mammograms for uninsured AA women. More women than ever know about the Rose and our mission to save lives with annual mammograms. The seasoned black teachers and principals who mentored me when I taught school (so long ago) inspired me to help a community that gave me so much. I am blessed. I Am Woman Tell us about Yourself I am an author, healer & motivational speaker. A mother of 4 & a Woman on purpose. When Life Gives You Lemons How would you turn a negative situation into something positive? Choose to view life as a Warrior and not a victim of my story. Making HERStory What and/or Who inspired you to follow your dream? As a war child survivor of the Ugandan civil war. My father was & still is my hero. He is no longer here but every day of his life he wanted the best for me, always pushing my limits & showing me what I was made off. My dad inspires me, even though he is no longer alive. His spirit & resilience lives through me. Keeping Up With the Bosses

Tell us about Yourself I am a resilient woman who believes in the power of an almighty God! When Life Gives You Lemons How would you turn a negative situation into something positive? I find the lesson in every negative situation. While it may hurt “going through” .... I gain something positive because I’ve learned. Knowledge. Making HERStory What and/or Who inspired you to follow your dream? I became a widow at the age of 32. My husband and I had 16 years and 4 young children together. My inspiration to follow my dreams came when my children looked into my face and saw a SHEro in me that I knew didn’t live there.... I put on my cape, let her move in, and I’ve been flying high ever since. They are watching me...I can’t afford to fail. My bloodline is my inspiration. |
